Kwankwaso Supports NDC's Southern Presidential Ticket

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, endorsed the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria. Speaking at the NDC national convention in Abuja, Kwankwaso emphasized the importance of fair power-sharing arrangements within the party.

He urged Nigerian political parties to support the NDC's mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 elections. The resolution to zone the presidential ticket to the South was formally adopted during the convention, following a motion moved by Afam Victor Ogen, a lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in Anambra State.

This decision is part of a broader power-sharing formula aimed at balancing regional interests within the opposition coalition, with the expectation that the presidential ticket will return to the North in 2031 after the Southern tenure is completed. The NDC's national executive committee ratified the election of members to the national working committee during the convention, which is anticipated to enhance the chances of former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, a Southern aspirant, in the party's presidential primaries.
