Obi Calls for Unity at NDC Convention Ahead of 2027 Elections

At the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) convention held in Abuja, Peter Obi, a presidential aspirant, urged Nigerians to unite and work towards rebuilding the country ahead of the 2027 general elections. He emphasized the importance of addressing severe economic hardships, insecurity, and unemployment affecting approximately 140 million Nigerians living in multidimensional poverty.

Obi warned against political divisions driven by ethnicity and religion, stating that no tribe or religion can prosper alone. He advocated for a shift from a consumption-driven economy to one anchored in agriculture and manufacturing to enhance the nation's gross domestic product.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former governor, supported the decision to zone the presidential ticket to the south, describing it as essential for national healing and unity. He expressed optimism that Nigeria could regain prosperity through effective leadership and inclusive governance.

The convention marked the formal commencement of the NDC's preparations for the upcoming elections.
