Kano Set to be Key Battleground in 2027 Elections

Reuben Abati, a former presidential aide, stated that Kano State is poised to be a major battleground in the 2027 elections, particularly following the defection of Kwankwaso from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). During an appearance on Arise Television's morning show on Tuesday, Abati emphasized the importance of Kano, which has 44 local government areas, alongside Lagos State, in determining the outcome of the presidential election.

He noted that Kwankwaso is a dominant political figure in Kano and his influence will significantly impact the dynamics of the 2027 race. Abati raised questions regarding the internal dynamics of the ADC, especially concerning the party's presidential ticket and the possibility of Kwankwaso emerging as a running mate as part of broader political arrangements.

He also referenced ongoing speculation about potential alliances between Kwankwaso and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, which could affect the political stance of the former vice president within the party.
