Kwankwaso and Gawuna Set to Join ADC, Reshaping Kano Politics

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, is edging closer to defecting from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside Nasiru Gawuna, the current Deputy Governor of Kano State. Gawuna has already tendered his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), which has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, particularly affecting Governor Abba Yusuf's camp.

Reports indicate that Kwankwaso is expected to officially join the ADC next week, aligning with opposition leaders such as Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar. This coalition aims to mobilize support against the ruling party in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Political analyst Kamilu Fagg noted that Gawuna's move is a significant blow to the influence of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Meanwhile, Aminu Abdussalam's resignation is framed as a decision made for the overall interest of the people and to maintain political stability in Kano.
