Former Kano Cabinet Members Sue Over Vehicle Seizures

Five former cabinet members of Kano State, including Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of NNPP leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have filed a lawsuit against the Kano State government in the National Industrial Court. The suit, filed on January 14, 2026, challenges the actions of the Public Complaint Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), which allegedly forcibly entered residences on February 26 to seize vehicles.

The plaintiffs demand the immediate return of the vehicles and claim that the actions of the government were vindictive and aimed at silencing opposition voices. The former cabinet members, who resigned following Governor Abba Yusuf's defection from the NNPP to the APC, argue that the seizure violated their rights and was an attempt to embarrass them.

The PCACC chairman, Said Yahaya, confirmed the recovery exercise but stated that the ex-commissioners ignored a court order to return the vehicles. The political tension in Kano has escalated following the governor's defection and the subsequent resignations of cabinet members.
