Former Kano Officials Sue Government Over Vehicle Seizure

Five former cabinet members of the Kano State Government, including Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of ex-governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have initiated legal action against the state government. They filed a suit at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria on January 14, 2026, challenging the actions of the Public Complaint Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) which allegedly seized their official vehicles.

The plaintiffs, including Nasiru Sule Garo and AVM Ibrahim Umar, claim that the seizure, which occurred on February 26, was an attempt to intimidate and silence opposition voices following the high-profile defection of Governor Abba Yusuf to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC). The former commissioners argue that they are entitled to retain their official vehicles as part of their political office privileges, and they demand the immediate return of the seized vehicles.

They accuse the government of a vindictive attitude and of violating the 2023 Revenue Mobilization Fiscal Commission Act.
