Gender Advocate Hon Mopelola Bashir Seeks Reps Seat 2027

Hon Mopelola Abdulmalik Bashir has officially obtained her nomination form to contest for the Asa Ilorin West Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 elections, representing the Progressive Congress APC. Her entry into the race sends strong political signals across the constituency, setting expectations for a significant contest against the incumbent, Hon Muktar Tolani Shagaya.

Mopelola, a former commissioner for women affairs and water resources, has built a reputation around institutional reform and social development, particularly in gender advocacy. She has been a key figure in Kwara's civic democratic advocacy space and has contributed to the emergence of a gender-composite framework law in Kwara State, which guarantees a minimum of 35% representation for women in political appointments.
