Awoyal Warns Against Automatic Tickets for Lawmakers

Gbenga Awoyal, the President of Orisun Igbomina, issued a statement on Friday warning against the practice of granting automatic tickets to serving members of the National Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stressed that democracy should guide the political process, allowing for free choice among party members.

Awoyal expressed concerns about the perception that certain lawmakers are entitled to automatic returns without undergoing the party's democratic nomination process. He noted that this could lead to unhealthy political influences and discourage new aspirants.

The discussion surrounding the Kwara South senatorial seat, currently held by Lola Ashiru, has intensified amid reports linking it to governorship and senatorial contests for 2027. Awoyal clarified that his position is not driven by hostility towards individuals but aims to promote fair representation and political balance within the district.

He urged APC leadership in Kwara State to ensure transparency and merit in the electoral process, warning that preferential treatment could deepen dissatisfaction within the party.
