Police Arrest 33 in Kwara Church Attack, Recover Weapons

On November 20, 2025, an attack on the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, resulted in the deaths of at least three worshippers and the kidnapping of 38 individuals, including the pastor. In response, the Nigeria Police Force, through its Intelligence Response Team (IRT), conducted coordinated operations across Kwara and Kogi states, leading to the arrest of 33 suspects.

The police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Anthony Placid, disclosed during a press briefing that the operation was based on credible human and technical intelligence. The investigation revealed the suspects were involved in criminal conspiracies, including armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, culpable homicide, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The police recovered several weapons, including seven AK-47 rifles, an anti-aircraft launcher, and 32 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, among other items. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to apprehend additional fleeing gang members.
