707 Ganawuri Indigenes Displaced in Kwara Terror Attack

On February 3, a terrorist attack in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, displaced 707 Ganawuri indigenes, as confirmed by Hon. Gwong Gwya Song, the Deputy Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area.

The assault, attributed to members of the Aten ethnic group, resulted in the deaths of 160 individuals, with 30 Aten community members killed and four others injured. The attack severely impacted the community's ability to travel, farm, and engage in commercial activities.

Currently, four individuals remain in captivity held by the armed group responsible for the massacre. Although 200 displaced persons have returned home, they lack formal IDP camp shelter.

The Riyom Local Government Council has approved an emergency intervention of N4 million to assist survivors. Timothi Lazaru has called for urgent intervention from federal and state governments to provide shelter, food, medical support, and enhanced security measures.

Meanwhile, a separate attack occurred in Konkoso, Niger State, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.
