Terrorists Raid Kwara Village, Loot Shops Amid Violence

On February 3, 2023, terrorists raided Gada Oli village near Woro in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. Armed men on motorcycles stormed the village, shooting into the air and looting a phone shop, causing residents to flee for safety.

An anonymous community member reported that no deaths occurred during this raid, although several shops were broken into and goods were stolen. This incident follows a coordinated attack on the Woro Nuku community that resulted in 100 deaths, marking it as one of the deadliest assaults in recent years in the state.

In response, the Federal Government has launched Operation Savannah Shield, a joint military campaign involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force, aimed at stabilizing the region and dismantling terrorist networks operating in forest corridors, including areas around Kainji Lake National Park. Despite these efforts, residents in neighboring areas, such as Gbugbu and Kpanpkanragi, express fear of further violence, impacting their daily lives and religious observances during Ramadan.
