Kwara State Polytechnic to Reopen March 2 After Protests

Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin is set to reopen on March 2, 2026, after being closed since January 19, 2026, due to protests from students over the temporary accommodation of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on campus. The closure was announced by the institution's acting registrar, Halimat Garba, following approval from Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

The decision to close the polytechnic was made to manage escalating tensions during demonstrations against the NYSC camp's presence on campus, which disrupted academic activities. The protests turned chaotic, leading to security interventions that resulted in injuries among students and staff, including the chief security officer of the polytechnic.

The management has urged staff and students to adhere to the reopening date and expressed appreciation for their cooperation during the closure. The institution aims to successfully complete the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic session.
