Kwara State Achieves Nigeria's Lowest Under-Five Mortality Rate

In a recent announcement, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq stated that the state has achieved Nigeria's lowest under-five mortality rate for 2024, as reported by the Federal Ministry of Health's demographic health survey. The survey indicates that Kwara has a mortality rate of 14 deaths per 1,000 live births, making it the best-performing state in the country for child health.

AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of continued investment in primary healthcare and pledged to sustain efforts to improve the sector. Nusirat Elelu, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, noted that the state recorded two child deaths per 1,000 live births, the lowest figure in the country.

This improvement is attributed to expanded healthcare services and increased confidence in health facilities among residents, as well as better access to skilled birth attendants across primary healthcare centers.
