Kwara Residents Demand Urgent Action Against Bandits

Residents of Kwara State have called for decisive government action against bandits, particularly in the Yikpata area of Edu Local Government, where the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp is reportedly unsafe for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). Usman Harun, a spokesperson for the protesting group, emphasized that the protests were not politically motivated but aimed at addressing the severe insecurity affecting the community.

They rejected negotiations with criminal groups, citing past failures, and urged the government to prioritize the safety of lives and property. The protest took an emotional turn when Khadija Ibrahim recounted her sister being shot during a recent attack, highlighting the urgent need for medical assistance.

The community is also demanding the release of 176 individuals allegedly kidnapped and called for the establishment of a military barrack in Kwara North to enhance security. The residents expressed that ongoing insecurity has severely impacted farming and education, leading to increased hardship.
