Kwara South Forum Urges Action Against Rising Insecurity

The Kwara South Development Forum has raised alarms regarding the persistent killings and abandonment of homes in Kwara communities, attributing the rise in insecurity to government inaction. In a statement signed by Obashola Ayomid Ridwan, the forum highlighted a series of violent attacks, including the killing of traditional rulers and high-profile kidnappings.

Notably, Segun Aremu Cole was killed in Koro Town, Ekiti Local Government Area, in February 2024, and traditional ruler Oba Bayagan was abducted in Ifelodun Local Government Area. The forum reported that 20 communities in Kwara South have seen residents flee for safety.

Local vigilantes, who have faced heavy armed attacks, are becoming victims themselves, lacking adequate weaponry to confront sophisticated terrorists armed with AK-47 rifles. The forum criticized security agencies for ignoring advance warnings of possible attacks and called for urgent deployment of security operations and support for community-based defenses to prevent further violence and humanitarian crises.
