Kwara South Residents Demand Action Against Insecurity

On a recent Friday, residents of Kwara South organized a protest to voice their concerns over worsening insecurity in the region. The Kwara South Development Forum led the demonstration, calling for immediate action from President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

Protesters described the alarming rise of armed groups, which they labeled as terrorists, taking control of communities through sustained attacks, killings, kidnappings, and displacing entire populations. They reported that local security structures, particularly vigilant groups, have been systematically weakened.

The protest featured testimonies from families affected by kidnappings, with ransoms of N10 million and N5 million paid for the release of victims. The demonstrators urged traditional rulers to unite and push for federal intervention, warning that failure to act swiftly could lead to further loss of lives and control by armed elements.

The protest highlighted the urgent need for increased security measures and the empowerment of local vigilante networks to combat the escalating humanitarian crisis.
