Kwara, UNICEF Enhance Maternal and Child Nutrition Training

From April 8 to 10, 2023, Kwara State, in partnership with UNICEF, organized a three-day capacity-building training for health stakeholders aimed at improving maternal and child nutrition across the state. The training, held in Ilorin, focused on the administration of small quantities of lipid-based nutrient supplements and micronutrient powders.

Professor Nusirat Elelu, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency, urged participants to maximize the knowledge gained to ensure effective transfer of nutrition practices at the local government level. She highlighted that by 2025, an estimated 1.6 million children and 500,000 pregnant women would benefit from nutritional interventions.

The training included sessions led by experts from UNICEF and the Federal Ministry of Health, covering critical topics such as hidden hunger and the importance of proper nutrition during the first 1,000 days of a child's life. Practical sessions were conducted to ensure hygienic administration of supplements, with an emphasis on community involvement in nutritional care.
