Super Falcons Face Player Withdrawals Ahead of Olympic Qualifiers

The Super Falcons began their preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign on October 5, 2026, with 14 players in camp at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen had initially invited 28 players, but injuries and personal requests led to several withdrawals.
Notable absences include defender Ashley Plumptre, who is sidelined due to a sprain and ligament injury, and Benfica players Oluwatosin Demehin and Flourish Sabastine, who are unable to join due to residence permit issues. Five-time African Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala has also requested to be excused.
In response to these setbacks, Eguavoen has called up Belarus-based forward Blessing Okpe. Currently, the squad includes goalkeepers Christiana Uzoma, defenders Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Valentina Uroko, Glory Edet, Shukurat Oladipo, and Glory Ogbonna, midfielders Oluchi Omenazu, Joy Igbokwe, Fatimoh Solaty, and Suliat Abideen, and forwards Shakirat Moshood, Blessing Nkor, and Sandra John.
More players, including senior members, are expected to join later in the week.
