Labour Party Sets April 28, 2026 for National Convention

The Labour Party has officially announced that its national convention will take place on April 28, 2026. This decision was communicated in a formal notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 31, 2026, and was jointly signed by caretaker national chairman Nenadi Usman and caretaker national secretary Darlington Nwokocha.

The party has also scheduled ward congresses for April 23, local government area (LGA) congresses for April 24, and state congresses for April 25, 2026. This new timeline was established to provide legal backing for the party's activities in accordance with the provisions of Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and INEC regulations.

The Labour Party aims to ensure broader participation among its members and to complete the ongoing digital membership registration process. The notice also requests that INEC adequately monitor the congress and convention processes to comply with constitutional mandates.
