A coalition of Lagos indigenes has called on Obafemi Hamzat, the current Deputy Governor of Lagos State, to appoint Boladapo Thomas as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election. The appeal, made over the weekend, highlights Thomas's extensive administrative experience and long-standing service within the state.

Proponents argue that her unique combination of institutional knowledge and leadership capacity is crucial for the deputy governor role, especially as Lagos, being Nigeria's economic hub, requires a candidate with a strong understanding of government structures and public sector reform. Boladapo Thomas currently serves as the Chairman of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, overseeing personnel policies and staff development.

Her career in public service began in 1988, and she has held several strategic positions, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Wealth Creation. The call for her nomination also reflects a commitment to increasing female representation in top political offices across the country.
