Lagos APC Denies Candidate Imposition Ahead of Elections

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially denied allegations of a scheme to impose candidates ahead of the forthcoming legislative elections. In a statement issued on Thursday, the state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, dismissed the claims as unfounded, asserting that they were aimed at creating unnecessary tension within the party.

Ojelabi emphasized that there were no secret meetings or pre-arranged candidate lists, and he described the allegations as attempts to manufacture a crisis that does not exist. He further criticized certain individuals who resort to propaganda and anonymous campaigns to discredit the party's leadership.

The APC reaffirmed its commitment to comply with the electoral act and its constitutional guidelines, stating that candidate selection would follow a consensus arrangement or direct primaries if necessary. Ojelabi urged party members and the general public to disregard the misleading narratives circulated by opportunist groups and assured that the party's internal democracy would prevail.
