Lagos State Arrests 86 Beggars in Street Clampdown

In a recent operation, the Lagos State Government arrested 86 street beggars in the Agege and Ketu areas as part of a clampdown on street begging. The operation, disclosed by Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, took place during a monitoring enforcement patrol.

Of the 86 individuals apprehended, 25 were arrested in Agege, while the remaining were taken into custody in Ketu. The enforcement team began their patrol at 12:00 PM, resulting in the arrest of nine children and 12 suspected miscreants across the areas covered.

The arrested individuals will be profiled and transferred to relevant government agencies for further action in line with existing laws and social intervention protocols. This clampdown is part of a broader statewide campaign initiated earlier in 2026 to address street begging and related nuisances, aiming to maintain order and protect vulnerable persons in Lagos.
