Lagos State Arrests 931 for Environmental Offenses

The Lagos State Government reported the arrest of 931 individuals for environmental offenses within a year, as disclosed by Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment, during a press briefing on Sunday at Alausa, Ikeja. The enforcement operations were intensified across the state, resulting in 2,251 site inspections and the issuance of 1,711 contravention notices.

Additionally, 239 sites were sealed, and enforcement teams evacuated 650 tons of construction waste during the review period. The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency successfully completed the installation of 114 air quality sensors to monitor pollution levels and improve air quality management.

Wahab emphasized the government's commitment to stricter adherence to environmental laws and standards, aiming to protect residents' health. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the administration's dedication to enhancing environmental compliance and promoting cleaner community technologies.
