Lagos Mother Arrested for Child's Waste Disposal Violation

The Lagos State Government arrested a woman identified as Mr. McCarthy, residing at No 56 Adaranijo Street, Pedro, Shomolu, for allegedly directing her child to dispose of waste in a drainage channel, contrary to state environmental laws.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, disclosed the arrest, which followed reports from residents prompting an investigation by enforcement officers. Wahab underscored the need for parents and guardians to educate children on responsible environmental practices rather than encouraging actions that obstruct drainage systems, which can exacerbate flooding.

He stated that the government would not tolerate such violations and urged residents to properly dispose of waste to support collective efforts in maintaining a clean and safe environment. Additionally, the enforcement team has intensified efforts to remove illegal structures along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as part of broader environmental restoration initiatives.
