Lagos Assembly Reviews 2024 Audit Reports for LGAs

The Lagos State House of Assembly, through its House Committee on Public Accounts (Local), has initiated the consideration of the 2024 Statutory Audit Inspection Report from the Auditor-General for Local Governments. This review encompasses the accounts of 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State.

The two-week exercise commenced with officials from Alimosho, Amuwo-Odofin, Badagry, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ikeja, Oriade, and Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Councils. The objective is to scrutinize the financial activities of these councils for the year ending December 31, 2024, promoting accountability, transparency, and prudent management of public funds.

Hon Prince Nureni Akinsanya, Chairman of the Committee, emphasized that the exercise is part of their statutory responsibilities and is not intended to witch-hunt anyone. Council chairmen and relevant officials must respond to issues raised in the audit report and provide necessary documentation.

The findings will be presented to the House for further action.
