Ogun Assembly Directs Councils to Document Assets Effectively

The Ogun State House of Assembly has mandated the leadership of the 20 Local Government Councils to implement effective documentation of all assets and financial records to foster transparency and accountability. This directive was issued by the House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption, chaired by Damilare Bello, during a session on Wednesday, as part of the ongoing consideration of the 2024 report from the Auditor-General for Local Governments at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The committee, which included members such as Babatunde Tella, Folawewo Salami, and others, reviewed reports from five local councils, including Ewekoro, Ijebu North, Ijebu East, and Ifo. Bello emphasized the importance of timely record-keeping to enhance accountability and asset management.

The committee also urged councils to maintain comprehensive records of their properties, recover unauthorized local government number plates, and ensure proper documentation of government assets. Lawmakers expressed concerns that inadequate filing could impede effective oversight and directed councils to present updated records later.
