Lagos Launches AI-Powered Emergency Response System

The Lagos State Government unveiled the Lagos Emergency Response Management System (LERM) on a Monday at the secretariat in Ikeja, attended by various emergency agencies. Gbenga Oyerind, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, described LERM as a significant step towards building a safer and smarter emergency response framework in Lagos.

The platform aims to address the complexities of the megacity by shifting from a fragmented, reactive approach to a proactive, integrated system. LERM allows residents to report emergencies in real-time through a mobile application and USSD channels, enhancing coordination among first responders, including LASAMBUS, LASTMA, fire services, and security agencies.

The system also features an ambulance service management component that tracks hospital beds and dispatches ambulances in real-time, significantly improving medical emergency responses. Femi Giwa, General Manager of the Lagos State Command Control Centre, emphasized that LERM enhances the agency's mandate for real-time monitoring and resource deployment, ultimately saving lives and properties.
