The Lagos State Government has initiated a distribution of life-saving medical commodities to Primary Health Care Centers (PHCs) in Ibeju Lekki and Eti Osa Local Government Areas to combat maternal and infant mortality. This initiative was disclosed during a distribution ceremony by Monsurat Adelek, the Permanent Secretary of Health District III. Adelek described the initiative as a critical step towards achieving universal health coverage, emphasizing that the intervention aims to equip PHCs with essential tools needed to save lives during childbirth and early childhood. The distributed commodities include oxytocin and misoprostol, which are vital for addressing maternal health challenges, particularly postpartum hemorrhage. Adelek also highlighted the provision of neonatal and child health commodities such as chlorhexidin gel, zinc sulfate, and oral rehydration salts. She urged healthcare workers to maintain high standards of clinical practice and reassured that the life-saving items would reach patients free of charge without delay. Temitop Adeyemi, head of the pharmaceutical unit at EP PHC, expressed gratitude for the initiative led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
