Lagos Governor Slashes Cost of Replacing Faded Number Plates to ₦20,000

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has announced a temporary reduction in the cost of replacing faded or damaged vehicle number plates from ₦30,000 to ₦20,000 for a three-month amnesty period. The initiative aims to improve vehicle identification, strengthen security, and enhance road safety.

The Permanent Secretary of the Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA), Rashe Muri Okunola, disclosed the rebate validity within the January to March 2026 window. Vehicle owners with worn or faded number plates are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity by visiting designated centers in Lagos.

This move is part of efforts to address security concerns associated with unread number plates and enhance the state's security architecture.
