Lagos State Sets Four-Month Deadline for Illegal Structures

The Lagos State Government has mandated residents of state-owned housing estates to remove illegal structures within four months, as stated by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Abdulhafi Toriola. This directive was issued during a stakeholders' meeting at the Alausa Secretariat, where concerns regarding unauthorized building extensions were discussed.

Toriola highlighted that structures built outside the approved layout would face enforcement actions if not removed within the stipulated period. The Ministry has already obtained the necessary authorization to demolish illegal constructions and restore the estates to their original approved designs.

Toriola also addressed claims from residents regarding permissions for modifications, clarifying that no such approvals were granted. The Ojokoro Estate Residents Association, represented by Chairman Taiwo Akind, expressed support for the government's initiative to maintain the integrity of the estates and ensure compliance with established guidelines.
