Lagos State to Demolish Illegal Structures in Estates

The Lagos State government has announced plans to demolish illegal structures within state-owned housing estates, as stated by Abdulhafi Toriola, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Housing. During a stakeholders' meeting with the Ojokoro Estate Residents Association in Meiran, Toriola expressed alarm over the increasing number of unauthorized developments that distort the original design and compromise safety.

He warned that residents who violate property allocation rules would face sanctions, and a notice would be issued requiring the removal of illegal structures within four months. The ministry has received approval to begin the demolition process as part of efforts to restore order and improve safety in the estates.

Toriola clarified that the aim is not to punish residents but to enhance the overall aesthetic and security of the estates. He also addressed claims regarding unauthorized alterations approved by the Lagos Build Invest Company, which were dismissed by ESV Tosin Olugbil, the company's General Manager.
