Lagos Seals Illegal Estates in Lekki for Planning Violations

The Lagos State Government has taken enforcement action against illegal estates in Lekki and Lagos Island, sealing several structures that operate without approved layout plans and statutory building permits. This operation, carried out by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, follows a warning issued in 2025 when the government identified 176 estates operating illegally, primarily within Eti Osa, Ajah, and Ibeju Lekki.

The government provided a 21-day ultimatum for these estates to regularize their approvals. Dr.

Oluyinka Olumid, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, stated that the enforcement action commenced on Wednesday and is focused on estates along the Lekki axis. Although the exact number of sealed structures was not disclosed, Olumid reiterated the government's firm stance against unauthorized developments and emphasized the importance of obtaining layout approvals and building permits to avoid sanctions.

The enforcement is part of the government's commitment to sustainable urban development and managing rapid growth in the Lekki and Ajah areas.
