Lagos Clears Shanties, Evicts Illegal Occupants in Ajao

The Lagos Environment Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) executed a clearance operation at the Ajao Estate canal, targeting illegal structures and occupants. This action was prompted by repeated complaints from community leaders regarding environmental violations in the area.

Mr. Ajayi Lukman, head of the public affairs advocacy unit, stated that the operation was based on intelligence reports indicating ongoing infractions along the canal corridor.

The enforcement team destroyed the illegal structures to prevent immediate reoccupation, with a warning that anyone returning to the site would face prosecution under existing environmental laws. Marshal Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd) emphasized the importance of sustaining environmental enforcement to ensure a safer living and business environment.

The operation was part of a broader strategy discussed during a retreat focused on improving service delivery and collaboration among agencies to enhance environmental safety.
