Lagos Government Warns of Environmental Crisis in Lagos Lagoon

The Lagos State Government raised concerns about the deteriorating state of the Lagos Lagoon, warning of an impending environmental crisis due to industrial pollution, illegal fishing, rising sea levels, and coastal erosion. The Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Yacoob Dayo Alebiosu, highlighted the urgent need for action to prevent a social and environmental disaster.

The government announced the upcoming Lagos Waterfront Summit on September 11, 2025, to address the challenges facing the Lagos Lagoon and develop a sustainable development plan. The lagoon receives significant industrial waste daily, posing a threat to the ecosystem and community well-being.
