Lagos Residents Turn Out for First Sanitation Since 2016

The Lagos State Government commended residents for their significant turnout during the first monthly sanitation exercise since November 2016, which took place on Saturday. The exercise, aimed at reintroducing environmental cleanliness, was led by Tokunbo Wahab, who expressed gratitude for the civic responsibility shown by Lagosians.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat were acknowledged for their commitment to restoring the initiative, with the participation of the First Lady, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and the Deputy Governor's wife, Oluremi Hamzat. Local government chairmen across 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas were also recognized for their grassroots leadership.

The exercise, which occurred from 6:30 to 8:30 AM, was the first full implementation since a court ruling restricted movement during sanitation hours. The government plans to reward the cleanest local government areas and streets on a monthly basis, emphasizing the importance of partnership between the government and residents for a cleaner Lagos.
