Lagos State Resumes Monthly Sanitation on April 25, 2026

The Lagos State Government has announced the resumption of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM. The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has called on residents to fully comply with this initiative aimed at ensuring proper waste disposal and maintaining cleanliness across the state.

This exercise, which has been suspended for nearly a decade, will now occur on the last Saturday of every month. The previous schedule was from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM but was suspended in November 2016 due to legal restrictions on movement during the exercise.

Residents have expressed excitement about the resumption, believing it will help curb indiscriminate waste disposal and reduce flooding. However, there are concerns regarding enforcement and potential misuse of law enforcement officials during the exercise.

The state emphasizes the importance of educating residents on proper waste disposal rather than relying solely on the monthly sanitation activity.
