Lagos Empowers 40,000 Residents with Business Tools

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu stated that his administration has empowered around 40,000 residents with business tools in the past seven years, aimed at strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), reducing poverty, and promoting economic inclusion. This announcement was made during the 2026 Micro Enterprise Support Initiative (MESI) Empowerment Programme, organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation at the Blue Roof, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

The initiative provides beneficiaries with various business equipment, including sewing machines, gas cookers, and agricultural processing machines, to help them establish or expand their businesses and achieve financial independence. Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the programme aligns with his administration’s THEMES+ Agenda, focusing on economic development, job creation, and social inclusion.

He described the MESI as a significant investment in entrepreneurship and sustainable wealth creation. Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat encouraged beneficiaries to register with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) for financing opportunities.
