Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Repairs Cause Traffic and Fare Surge

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has experienced significant traffic chaos, leaving commuters stranded and causing a surge in transport fares. This situation arose from ongoing repair work on the Kara Bridge, as announced by the Federal Government.

The repairs, which began on March 10, 2026, are expected to be completed by March 24, 2026. Motorists have faced hours of gridlock, stretching far beyond the construction point, with reports of delays starting from the Lagos Secretariat area to Ojodu Berger.

Commuters, including students and parents, have been forced to trek long distances due to the increased fares, which have risen from typical costs of N400 to N800 or N1,000. Commercial driver Wasiu justified the fare increase by citing rising fuel prices and time lost in traffic.

Criticism has emerged regarding the timing of the repairs, especially with the upcoming Eid celebrations, as many people are expected to travel during this period.
