Lagos State Enforces Mini-Bus Restrictions on Lekki-Epe

The Lagos State Ministry of Transport has reiterated its policy to restrict mini-buses, commonly known as "korope," along the Lekki-Epe corridor. This decision was announced during a stakeholders' meeting aimed at addressing concerns related to transport reform.

The initiative is part of the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan, which seeks to promote structured and sustainable mass transit. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, explained that the reform prioritizes efficiency, safety, and traffic management across major corridors.

The policy aims to limit the operation of mini-buses to inner routes, thereby reducing the number of vehicles on the road, alleviating traffic congestion, and lowering environmental pollution. Bolanle Ogunlola, the Director of Public Affairs, noted that the government has engaged with transport unions and encouraged formal registration of operators.

The Lagos State Government has condemned recent protests by drivers blocking the Ajah axis, warning that such disruptions will not be tolerated as they hinder traffic flow along the corridor.
