Lagos State Introduces Exams for Senior Officer Promotions

The Lagos State Government has initiated a new formal assessment process for the promotion of senior officers in parastatals, which will be implemented as part of the 2026 promotion exercise. This marks a significant shift in the career advancement structure within the public service, focusing on merit rather than years of service.

The assessment program, which is being implemented for the first time, requires officers at grade levels 12 to 16 to sit for written examinations and computer-based tests. The initiative is in line with the government's commitment to a merit-driven public service career progression anchored on competency and capacity development.

A total of 388 officers are currently undergoing this assessment at the Public Service Staff Development Centre in Magodo. Afolabi Ayantayo is monitoring the exercise, while Olubusola Abidakun, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness among participating organizations.

The assessment began on Tuesday and will run for a week.
