Lekki Council Chairman Vows to Prosecute Domestic Violence

Bamidele Kasali, the chairman of the Lekki Local Council in Lagos State, has announced a commitment to prosecute individuals found guilty of domestic violence. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday, Kasali highlighted the increasing incidents of domestic violence and child molestation in society, stating that offenders will face legal consequences as per the law.

He called on residents to uphold moral values and promote a culture of respect and dignity for women and children within the community. Kasali urged community leaders and religious institutions to intensify advocacy and sensitization campaigns against all forms of abuse.

He also encouraged victims and witnesses of domestic violence to report incidents to the appropriate authorities. The council plans to collaborate with security agencies to ensure justice and protect vulnerable community members, particularly in cases of child abuse, which have led to fatalities.

Kasali expressed optimism that ongoing sensitization programs will help curb domestic violence and child abuse at the grassroots level.
