Lagos CP Jimoh Warns Against Police Rights Abuses

On Saturday, Lagos State Police Commissioner Olohundar Jimoh addressed journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja, warning against human rights abuses by the state task force. He stated that the task force would be disbanded if any personnel were found guilty of such violations.

This warning followed a viral video showing the arrest of a traffic offender, which raised concerns about police conduct. Jimoh maintained that there was no indication of abuse or degrading treatment, asserting that suspects are handled according to established legal procedures.

He explained that individuals arrested for traffic offenses are promptly arraigned in mobile courts. Jimoh acknowledged the role of social media in highlighting public concerns and urged residents to comply with the law while reporting any misconduct.

He emphasized the importance of balancing strict law enforcement with the protection of citizens' rights, especially in a densely populated area like Lagos, which has an estimated population of 20 to 25 million.
