Lagos Man Sentenced to 3 Years for Fuel Diversion

On September 18, 2023, in Lagos State, Muhammad Ibrahim Bello was convicted and sentenced to three years in prison by Justice Mojisola Dada for the dishonest conversion of a truck containing 45,000 liters of premium motor spirit (PMS) valued at N25,212,500. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Bello on April 30, 2025, on charges related to theft, contrary to Section 280(1)(b) and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

During the trial, Bello pleaded not guilty, but the prosecution, led by counsel Z.B. Atiku, presented three witnesses and submitted documentary evidence.

The court found the prosecution's case proven, leading to Bello's guilty verdict. He was sentenced to three years in prison or an option of a N500,000 fine.
