Nigerian Navy Rescues Three Ghanaian Stowaways in Lagos

On March 28, 2026, the Nigerian Navy ship NN Beecroft discovered three Ghanaian stowaways—Armah Peter (26), Amisah Daniel (22), and Amoh Michael (25)—hidden in the rudder compartment of the merchant vessel MT Anatolia at Dangote Terminal in Lagos. Commodore Adam Aliu, head of NN Beecroft, reported that the trio had embarked on a dangerous unauthorized journey to Europe, having traveled from Ghana to Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, with the intention of working as fishermen.

They gained access to the vessel's rudder compartment before departure but were discovered after several hours at sea when the ship's crew alerted authorities. The stowaways were safely evacuated and handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further processing and transfer to the Ghanaian embassy.

This operation highlights the growing collaboration among security agencies to combat illegal migration and strengthen maritime security in the region. Commodore Aliu emphasized the Navy's commitment to safeguarding Nigeria's maritime domain and warned West African youth against the dangers of stowaway attempts.
