Nigerian Government Launches 2,000 Affordable Homes Project

The Nigerian Government has initiated the construction of 2,000 housing units in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, through a public-private partnership. The groundbreaking ceremony was conducted by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma, on Friday at Lekki Aviation Town.
This project is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at increasing housing supply, creating jobs, and promoting sustainable urban development. The housing development, in collaboration with Harmony Gardens and Estate Development Limited and Metroscape Development Company Limited, will feature two- and three-bedroom homes.
Dr Darma emphasized the importance of mobilizing private capital and expertise for large-scale housing delivery and called for improved regulation of Nigeria’s built environment to prevent construction-related issues. He also urged contractors to uphold high safety and environmental standards.
Prince Bayo Balogun, representing the Lagos State Governor, praised Harmony Gardens for its contributions and welcomed the government's housing initiative, encouraging further partnerships to tackle housing shortages.
