Lagos and Ogun States Enhance Traffic Management on Expressway

The Lagos and Ogun State governments have deployed additional traffic personnel to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to address severe congestion around the Kara Bridge corridor. This decision followed a prolonged gridlock that stranded motorists and commuters for several hours on Tuesday and Wednesday due to a multiple-vehicle crash, which compounded ongoing rehabilitation work on the bridge.

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, represented by Permanent Secretary Olawale Musa, stated that the fallen tanker involved in the obstruction had been evacuated by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). Musa noted that the situation was exacerbated by some motorists driving against traffic.

More traffic officers have been assigned to the area to manage the situation. Musa assured that the rehabilitation work, while temporarily inconvenient, is essential for the long-term safety and functionality of the corridor.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki confirmed that agency officials are working continuously to improve traffic flow and advised motorists to consider alternative routes.
