Lagos State to Launch New Driver's License System Soon

The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced plans to launch a state driver's license system in collaboration with the Federal Government. This initiative aims to enhance road safety and improve the efficiency of the licensing process for motorists.

During a press briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja, on the seventh anniversary of Sanwo-Olu's administration, Commissioner for Transport Oluwaseun Osiyemi revealed that the new driver's license will operate alongside the existing federal system, providing motorists with the option to obtain either. The initiative is part of a broader transport reform agenda, which includes digitizing traffic enforcement and vehicle monitoring to ensure regulatory compliance.

Lagos State recorded a total of 737,340 traffic violations over the past year, highlighting the need for improved traffic management. The state also processed 27,067 new driver's license applications and 29,810 renewals during the review period.
