Lagos State to Launch Digital Building Permits by 2026

The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the full implementation of a digital building permit process, officially ending the manual approval system. This transition will commence on April 1, 2026, as disclosed by Olajide Babatunde, the special adviser on urban development.

The new electronic platform, known as the Electronic Physical Planning Permit (EPPP), is designed to modernize operations, enhance transparency, and eliminate bottlenecks in the approval process. The manual process will be completely discontinued, and the digital system will cover the entire lifecycle of planning permits, ensuring compliance and monitoring.

A task force will be established to enforce adherence to the new process strictly. Babatunde emphasized that the platform will facilitate the application process and prevent unauthorized construction activities.

Additional reforms announced include a certification and accreditation program and a public-private partnership aimed at strengthening building control and reducing structural failures.
