Lagos State Advances Renewable Energy with Solar Power

The Lagos State Government is promoting the development and installation of clean, renewable energy systems, specifically through the installation of a 150 KVA outdoor solar power system at Radio Lagos Eko FM. Mr.

Gbenga Omotoso, the state commissioner for information and strategy, emphasized the need for sustainable electricity supply, highlighting the financial inefficiencies of relying on diesel for power, which costs between N600 to N800 million monthly for street lighting alone. He pointed out that the government had not previously recognized the unsustainable nature of this expenditure.

The solar power initiative is seen as a transformative step towards energy independence and sustainability, with Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor, expressing his commitment to making this vision a reality.

The project is expected to reduce carbon footprints and lower operational costs for the radio station, marking a significant shift towards renewable energy in the state.
