Lagos State Powers Radio Eko FM with Solar Energy

The Lagos State government has launched a solar power initiative at Radio Lagos Eko FM, installing a 150kVA outdoor solar generator to reduce reliance on diesel and ensure uninterrupted broadcasting. This project, unveiled on Tuesday, aims to cut operational costs and address the ongoing power supply challenges faced by the station.

Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, and Biodun Ogunley, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, emphasized the significance of this project in achieving energy independence. Olajid Lawal, the General Manager of Radio Lagos Eko FM, described the installation as a major milestone that will allow the station to operate continuously, even during grid disruptions.

The solar system is designed to provide adequate power, reducing the station's diesel consumption, which previously cost the state approximately N800 million monthly. This initiative represents a broader shift towards renewable energy in Lagos State, promoting sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint.
